Senior Judge Barbara J. Rothstein was appointed to the federal bench in 1980. She is a visiting senior judge from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
Judge Rothstein served as Chief Judge of the Western District of Washington from 1987 to 1994, and as Director of the Federal Judicial Center from 2003 to 2011. Before her federal appointment, she served as a King County Superior Court judge in Washington State. She previously worked in private law practice in Boston, Massachusetts, in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the Washington State Attorney General's office, and as a trial practice instructor at the University of Washington Law School.
