District of Maryland

The District of Maryland, with courthouses in Baltimore and Greenbelt, is one of the busiest districts in the Fourth Circuit, with 10 authorized judgeships. It handles a large volume of federal government contracting disputes, immigration cases, and civil rights litigation given Maryland's proximity to Washington, D.C. The Baltimore courthouse is named for Edward A. Garmatz, a longtime Maryland congressman.
