District of North Dakota

The District of North Dakota holds court in Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, and Minot, serving the entire state with two authorized judgeships. The Bakken oil boom of the 2010s brought a wave of energy-industry litigation to the district, and it continues to handle significant natural-resource and tribal-sovereignty matters given the presence of five federally recognized tribes. Fargo serves as the administrative headquarters.
