District of Rhode Island

The District of Rhode Island, the smallest federal judicial district in the country by land area, holds court at the federal courthouse in Providence. Created in 1789, it serves the entire state with just three authorized judgeships. The district has a history of handling significant organized-crime prosecutions and public-corruption cases.
