Eastern District of Louisiana

The Eastern District of Louisiana, headquartered at the Hale Boggs Federal Building in New Orleans, is the primary federal court for southeast Louisiana and handles a massive volume of maritime admiralty cases given the region's oil-and-gas offshore industry. The district was central to the litigation arising from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, one of the largest environmental law matters in U.S. history. It has 12 authorized judgeships.
