Southern District of Mississippi

The Southern District of Mississippi holds court in Jackson, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, and Natchez, serving the southern half of the state including the Gulf Coast. The district has six authorized judgeships and saw an enormous surge in litigation following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, particularly insurance-coverage disputes. The Gulfport Division serves the casino and maritime industries along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
