Court-wide rules

Applies court-wide

Island County Superior Court publishes its filing requirements at the court level rather than per judge, so these 290 rules are what govern this courtroom.

Filing Requirements

All 89
  • Applies to
    Motion

The parties may agree on a court-approved GAL or Court Visitor, subject to court approval; otherwise, they must bring a motion, which may suggest a confirmed-available candidate, and if an appointee declines, the parties must select another using the same process.

  • Applies to
    Transmittal email

Each transmittal email must identify the case by name and cause number, cover only one case, list attached or linked documents, and include the sender’s complete contact information.

  • Applies to
E filing or telefax transmittal sheet

Every e-filing transmission must include a transmittal sheet, and e-filing or telefax transmittal sheets must list each document’s title and page count.

Filing Timing

All 56
  • (7) Decision on Motion; Notice of Readiness; 90 Day Deadline for Readiness

  • Deadline
    12 calendar days

Notices for the law and motion calendar must be filed with the Clerk by 4:00 p.m. at least 12 calendar days before the hearing.

  • Deadline
    12 calendar days

Except for summary judgment, reconsideration, and motions that may be heard ex parte, a written motion must be filed by 4:00 p.m. 12 calendar days before the scheduled hearing.

Service

All 54
  • An applicant for an emergency order must notify the opponent or known counsel and request their presence when the order is presented, unless good cause supports an exception.

  • Applies to
    Emergency order papers

Copies of the motion, declaration, proposed order, and other applicable pleadings and papers shall be provided to the opposing party or his or her counsel, if possible.

  • Applies to
    Papers
    Service
    Email

Papers other than summons and other process may be served by email.

Formatting

All 27
  • A photograph of a page of an original document may not be used as the original document.

  • Motions and orders must be submitted as separate documents.

  • Photos of documents may not be used as originals.
