District of Alaska

The District of Alaska, covering the largest state in the union by land area, holds court in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Nome. The district has three authorized judgeships and handles a distinctive caseload of indigenous subsistence-rights claims, resource-extraction disputes, maritime law, and environmental litigation relating to federal public lands that comprise roughly 60% of Alaska's total area. The Nome courthouse serves one of the most remote federal courtrooms in the country.
