District of South Carolina

The District of South Carolina, serving the entire state from courthouses in Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Florence, Aiken, Beaufort, and Spartanburg, has nine authorized judgeships. The district is known for a high volume of prisoner civil-rights cases and significant textile-industry labor litigation historically. Charleston's federal courthouse dates to 1896 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
