**Senior District Judge Charles P. Kocoras** was appointed to the Northern District of Illinois by President Jimmy Carter in 1980. Judge Kocoras was born on March 12, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Greek immigrant parents. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard from 1961 to 1967, rising to the rank of sergeant. He was in private practice in Chicago from 1969 to 1971 and briefly from 1979 to 1980. He served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois from 1971 to 1977, then as Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission from 1977 to 1979. He has been an adjunct professor at John Marshall Law School since 1975.
