Senior District Judge Thomas M. Durkin was appointed to the Northern District of Illinois by President Barack Obama in 2013.
Judge Durkin was born in 1953. He served as a law clerk to Judge Stanley Julian Roszkowski of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois from 1978 to 1980. From 1980 to 1993, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, holding leadership positions including Chief of the Special Prosecutions Division, Chief of the Criminal Receiving and Appellate Division, and First Assistant U.S. Attorney. From 1993 to 2012, he was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago, handling complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He assumed senior status on December 26, 2023.
