Senior Judge Robert N. Scola, Jr. was appointed to the Southern District of Florida by President Barack Obama in 2011, confirmed by the Senate on October 19, 2011. Born in 1955 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he spent six years as a prosecutor in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office before entering private practice. He served as an adjunct professor at both the University of Miami School of Law and Florida International University College of Law. He assumed senior status on November 1, 2023.
