The Southern District of Florida, with its primary courthouse at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. United States Courthouse in Miami and additional courtrooms in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Pierce, Key West, and West Palm Beach, handles one of the most internationally diverse caseloads of any federal district. Miami's position as the gateway to Latin America produces significant international drug-trafficking, money-laundering, and extradition proceedings. The district has 17 authorized judgeships and is home to the U.S. Courthouse featured in many high-profile federal trials.
