Senior U.S. District Judge James R. Nowlin serves in the Western District of Texas, Austin Division.
Before his federal appointment, Judge Nowlin served as a member of the Texas Legislature (1967–1971, 1973–1981), as Associate Counsel to a U.S. Senate Committee (1965–1966), and in private legal practice (1963–1965, 1966–1981). He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1960.
