Southern District of Texas

The Southern District of Texas, with its main courthouse in Houston and additional courts in Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Laredo, McAllen, and Victoria, consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for criminal case filings due to its location along the U.S.-Mexico border. The McAllen and Laredo divisions handle some of the highest per-capita immigration caseloads in the federal system. The district has 19 authorized judgeships.
