Recalled United States Magistrate Judge Gary S. Austin was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of California on October 12, 2007, and now serves in a recalled capacity.
Before his appointment to the federal bench, Judge Austin served for nearly two decades as a Superior Court Judge in Fresno County (1988–2007) and prior to that as a Municipal Court Judge (1986–1988). He began his legal career as a law clerk and then a staff attorney for the Federal Defenders Office before spending over a decade as a deputy and senior deputy district attorney for Fresno County.
