District Judge Jon S. Tigar was appointed to the Northern District of California in January 2013.
Judge Tigar served for eleven years as a judge on the Alameda County Superior Court, including as Presiding Judge of its Appellate Division. He was a complex commercial litigation attorney at Keker & Van Nest, a trial lawyer at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, and has taught as an adjunct professor of Pretrial Litigation at Berkeley Law School. He is a member of the American Law Institute, the Ninth Circuit Jury Instructions Committee, and serves as Co-Chair of the Federal Judicial Center/ABA Antitrust Section Judicial Education Program.
